What this tells you

Annual leave accrues month by month rather than arriving in one lump at the end of the year. Twenty-one working days a year is the statutory minimum, which works out at 1.75 days a month. A contract may give more.

Carry-forward is a policy choice. Whatever cap you set, days above it are not carried, and the calculator shows how many that is.

House allowance

A monthly rate is exclusive of house allowance — it goes on top. A daily or hourly rate already includes it.

That is how the wage orders publish them, and it is the commonest place a figure goes wrong. Set it here as a percentage of basic, as a fixed amount, or off.

Valuing the balance

A leave day is worth the calendar daily rate — monthly gross times twelve, over 365.

That is the same daily rate the pro-rata and terminal dues calculators use, so a day is worth the same figure wherever you meet it.

Need a hand?

A calculator answers the arithmetic. The judgement — what a contract provides, how a policy applies, what a particular case needs — is a conversation.

ACCUREX advises on exactly this, every day. Talk to an HR consultant.

Common questions

The entitlement is twenty-one working days. The value of a day is the calendar daily rate, which is the same rate used by the pro-rata and terminal dues calculators.

Accrued and untaken leave is normally settled with the final dues, and an overdrawn balance recovered. The terminal dues calculator takes the balance from here — enter it as a negative if the employee is overdrawn.
